1. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate
This is the world's most prestigious certificate for the safety of textiles published and applied by the German testing institute Hohenstein and the Institute für Oekologie, Technik und Innovation ÖTI (Wien/Austria) in 1992.
Products that meet the OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 standard will undergo more than 100 testing criteria such as concentrations of formaldehyde, pesticides, extractable heavy metals, organochlorine-based conductors, and preservatives such as tetra- and pentachlorophenol, and so on.
This certificate is renewed once a year, so businesses will have to go through critical tests and renew the certificate every year.
2. Conditions for achieving OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
To achieve this prestigious certificate, BU Baby needs to meet all the articles:
- To comply with the criteria to avoid/limit harmful substances in the manufacturing process
- To comply with waste standards in the field of wastewater and emissions
- To consume energy efficiently
- To make less noise and dust pollution
- To have effective and reasonable labor protection methods
In addition to the main fabric, the sewing thread, printing, buttons, zippers, snaps, and all accessories used to make the product must meet the necessary standards (i.e., must be tested or certified OEKO TEX 100 standard).
3. Product classes of OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100
Product class 1: This product class includes products for babies and has the strictest requirements and limit values.
Product class 2: This product class includes products with skin contact. This comprises articles that come into direct contact with the skin to a large extent, such as blouses, shirts, underwear, mattresses, etc.
Product class 3: This product class includes products without skin contact. This covers articles that have no or minimal contact with the skin, such as jackets and vests, belts, etc.
Product class 4: This product class includes decoration materials. It covers all articles including initial products and accessories used for furnishing purposes, such as tablecloths, curtains, upholstery fabrics, etc.
BU Baby products have achieved Class 1 (i.e., the safest product), which means they are completely pure and do not contain harmful chemical residues.
4. How to check OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate
OEKO-TEX 100 has become the standard that many businesses want to achieve to prove the safety of their products. However, to achieve this certificate is not easy and must be renewed once a year. Therefore, the OEKO-TEX 100 certificate can be faked to deceive consumers' trust.
A standard OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certificate requires a certificate code and is verifiable on the website https://www.oeko-tex.com/en/label-check
